Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 July 2026

1. Overview

TargetIQ is a personal hobby project that estimates scores for paper shooting targets from photographs. This policy explains, in plain terms, what data the service handles and how it may be used. By using TargetIQ you consent to the practices described here. This policy should be read together with our Terms of Service.

2. What we collect

  • Account information — such as your name, email address, and an encrypted password, used to sign you in and associate your data with your account.
  • Profile picture — if you choose to add one, used to personalise your account.
  • Content you upload — photographs of targets and any related information (cards, sessions, detected shots, scores, and corrections you make).
  • IP address — collected and used strictly for security purposes as needed, such as protecting accounts, detecting and preventing abuse, and keeping the service running safely.
  • Basic technical data — such as logs and usage information generated as a normal part of running the service.

3. How we use your data — including AI training

We use your data to provide and operate the service, to store your results, and to maintain, debug, and secure the app. In addition, uploaded images, detected results, and the corrections you make may be retained and used to develop, train, evaluate, and improve the AI models and detection algorithms that power TargetIQ and any related or successor tools. Where images are used for this purpose we will generally strip or ignore obvious identifying details, but we do not guarantee anonymisation. If you do not want an image used in this way, do not upload it.

4. Sharing and processors

We do not sell your personal information. We may rely on third-party hosting, storage, and infrastructure providers to run the service, and your data may be processed and stored on their systems, which may be located in other countries. We may also disclose data where required by law or to protect the service, our rights, or the safety of others.

5. Retention

We keep data for as long as needed to operate the service and for the purposes above. Stored originals may be downscaled or deleted after a retention period, and data may be removed at any time without notice. Do not treat TargetIQ as durable storage. Even after you delete content, copies used for model training or held in backups may persist for a period of time.

6. Security — provided “as is”

We take reasonable, commercially sensible measures to protect data, but no system is completely secure. The service is provided on an “as is” basis, and, to the maximum extent permitted by law, the author and publisher accept no responsibility or liability for any unauthorised access, data breach, leak, loss, corruption, or misuse of data, howsoever caused. You use the service, and upload content, entirely at your own risk.

7. Your choices

You can delete sessions, cards, and images from within the app, and you may stop using the service at any time. Because this is a hobby project, formal data-subject request handling may be limited; you can reach out to [email protected] for reasonable requests, though we cannot guarantee a particular response time or outcome.

8. Children

Minors are not permitted to use the app themselves. In the case of minor shooters, a parent, guardian, or coach may set up and use the app on their behalf.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy at any time. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
